Overview of Clermont

Clermont is perfect for those who desire a more rural and laid-back community but also want to live close enough to a major city. While this area is very diverse, much like Apopka, which sits a little to the northeast, Clermont is a little bit farther away from the downtown Orlando area. This has created a culture that is mostly independent, and many residents rarely, if even, make it into the Orlando area.

Clermont’s self-contained nature has created lots of shopping and residential areas, and the region has plenty of activities and outlets for residents of all ages. The most significant monument in the Clermont area, the Florida Citrus Tower, is one of the earliest landmarks in Florida, and the tower just turned 60 in 2016.

Clermont also has another major feature — its landscape. While most of Florida is known for its flat landscape, sometimes accented by gently rolling hills, Clermont has what most Floridians call “Florida Mountains”. The hills in Clermont are far more pronounced than most other areas in the Central Florida region, which means that residents who enjoy living in an elevated location, or down in a small valley, will find plenty to love here.

In-depth on Clermont

The location

In addition to the steep hills, Clermont is also home to plenty of lakes, which means residents often enjoy their weekend fishing and boating with family and friends. The largest lake in the area, Lake Apopka, is a cultural staple and connects Clermont to Apopka, Winter Garden, and several other major areas.

The weather

The Clermont region gets an average of 51 inches of rain per year, which is a little more than average. The winters are very mild, the January low usually right around 49 degrees. The summers are hot, humid, and sunny, with an average high in July of around 92 degrees.

More details on Clermont

Clermont was settled in the late 1800’s, and has grown into a large and independent area in the past several decades. From 2000–2010, the Clermont region experienced a 207% growth, far above average, and has quickly become a popular area for many residents, including young families and retirees.

The historic Downtown Clermont is home to plenty of shops and small stores, and the residents in this area also enjoy beautiful views of the various lakes in the region, several of which sit right behind the downtown area.

Average income for a household is just under $40,000, and the median income for a family is only slightly higher, at around $48,000. Many residents also enjoy working in the Clermont area, and daily commutes into the greater Orlando area much rarer when compared to similar locations, like Apopka and Longwood.

Overall, if you want to live in a self-contained community, with beautiful vistas and a rich heritage, Clermont just may be the perfect place for you. As an added bonus, Orlando just a short drive away, as are all the major Central Florida attractions, like Disney World and Universal Studios.
