Overview of Longwood

Longwood is a suburban area in Seminole County that sits just a few miles north of Downtown Orlando. Like most other nearby areas, Longwood is part of the Orlando-Kissimmee Sanford Metropolitan Area, which holds over 2 million residents. In comparison, Longwood has a population of around 14,000, according to the 2010 census. It’s a smaller community, but one that enjoys access to many major Orlando areas, while also having plenty of restaurants and shops right around the corner.

Average income is higher than normal, at almost $59,000 for a household, and the median family income is about $10,000 higher. This means that residents are often willing to invest more financially into their homes and communities, which will raise the value of homes in the future. If you’re thinking about real estate in the Longwood area, it’s a better time than ever to get involved.

In-depth on Longwood

History

Longwood was settled in the late 1800’s, by several travelers that came into the region by steamboat to Sanford. These settlers were eventually granted homesteads in the Longwood area, and a small community grew into the city that stands today. The early settlers report that there were no other inhabitants in the nearby areas until nearly the 20th century. This has created a culture with a rich history, and a deep tradition of family values.

In the mind–1900’s, the Orlando area saw rapid growth, due to military and space industries developing facilities in the Central Florida area, likely due to the consistent sunny days and relatively flat land. With the opening of Disney World in the 1970s, Orlando suddenly became a major center for tourism and entertainment, and this has only created more jobs and opportunities in the surrounding areas, including Longwood. This also means that many Longwood workers commute to other areas of Orlando, either for work in the theme parks, engineering and aviation fields, or downtown businesses. Thankfully, the Longwood area is also connected to most major roads in northern Orlando, which means commutes aren’t as long or congested as many similar towns and communities.

The residents of Longwood have taken significant steps in the past several decades to improve their own downtown area, and this has created a cultured and welcoming atmosphere that many homeowners would appreciate. Overall, the Longwood area is perfect for residents that enjoy a strong community, but still want the versatility that comes with living within a few miles of a major metropolitan area.

I used The Realty Medics as a realtor and a property manager. My experience with both services was amazing. Really professional staff and attention to detail. Would definitely use their services again.
