Overview of Altamonte Springs

Located in Seminole County, Florida, Altamonte Springs is a suburban city with a population of just over 40,000 residents. Within the larger northern Orlando area, which also includes Kissimmee, Sanford, Lake Mary, and many other suburban areas, the total population is over 2 million residents, according to the United States Census Bureau.

Average highs in July, the warmest month, are right around 92 degrees, while the lows in January stay right around 50 degrees. Rainfall throughout the year is a little under 51 inches. The typical household income in Altamonte Springs is bit lower than the national average, at just over $48,000. In comparison, the median income for the surrounding county is $58,577 – almost $10,000 higher. Finally, the average age is just over 38 years.

The area was settled in the late 1800’s by the Altamonte Land, Hotel and Navigation Company, which is where the name “Altamonte Springs” (meaning “high hill” in Spanish) came from. One of the Altamonte’s central roads, SR 436, has been around for decades, and originally served as the community’s center.

In-depth on Altamonte Springs

The culture

Altamonte Springs is known as one of the most “creative” sections of Orlando, with a high amount of startups and technology companies focused around the area. This directly affects the culture, as the median age tends to be a little younger, compared to other surrounding Orlando areas like Lake Mary and Apopka.

Don’t let the innovation here fool you, as laid back is a great way to describe Altamonte. The people here are more than just technological, they enjoy parks and trees as much as the rest of us. In fact, you’ll find one of Orlando’s best kept secrets right near Altamonte Mall – Crane’s Roost, a small park that wraps around the beautiful Altamonte Lake. It’s the perfect place for a leisurely stroll with the family, but is also home to joggers, musicians, and the occasional family party.

Altamonte also has some of the best family activities in Orlando, with a fantastic mini golfing course, an extremely popular bowling alley (with a special “blacklight” bowling hour every night), and tons of family-friendly shops. This is the perfect place young couples that want to raise a family, and need a place they can grow with.

Restaurants

Restaurants are another huge part of Altamonte Springs. Just driving down 436 (the which runs all the way into downtown Orlando), you’ll encounter hundreds of chain and family-owned restaurants, most of which have been around for decades. From the ever-popular staples like Bahama Breeze and Longhorn Steakhouse, to established local favorites like Sweet Tomatoes and SUSHI, the food selection in Altamonte Springs is truly exceptional.

Altamonte Mall

Altamonte mall is one of the largest and most diverse shopping centers in Orlando. The large central structure is surrounded by several smaller shopping outlets, which altogether offer hundreds of food, clothing, and hobby stores. Like most areas, the Altamonte mall is a local hot spot for kids and teenagers, but with a massage parlor and plenty of tech stores, this shopping center should have something for just about anyone.

The surrounding area

The best part about Altamonte Springs? It’s right in the middle of everything, without necessarily feeling like it’s in the middle of everything. While the immediate area has tons of great housing options and a culture that will satisfy just about any homeowner, Altamonte is also situated just a few miles north of downtown Orlando, and a quick highway ride away from Disney and all the major areas around town. Have a job in south Orlando, but want to get away from all the tourism? Altamonte Springs is only about 20 minutes away using the main roads. This is also great for those who really enjoy the nightlife of a major city, but want to live in a more suburban area – you can often be in the heart of downtown Orlando in just a few minutes.

My experience with Realty Medics is good. They handle the property in an orderly fashion. It would be recommended though to customers to make sure that Realty medics is also in contact with HOA, since my experience shows that if that is not the case then Realty Medics is not pursuing that on their own.
