Oviedo is a city in Seminole County, with a population right around 33,000, according to the 2010 census. It’s also part of the much larger Orlando-Kissimmee-Sanford Metropolitan area, which currently has over 2 million residents. The city of Oviedo was originally founded back in the late 1800’s, and was named after the city in Spain, because of Florida’s original ties to the Spanish culture.
The city has quick access to several major roads and areas, like the University of Central Florida, which is just a few minutes south from Oviedo’s downtown area. Central Orlando is usually about a 20 minute drive from Oviedo, giving residents access to the city whenever they need it. Major roads in the area include State Road 408 and State Road 417, which can quickly connect travelers to Downtown Orlando, Sanford, Dayonta Beach, and even Disney World. The Oviedo area is also known for its rivers, as the Econlockhatchee River runs through the eastern part of the city, and several smaller rivers branch off and flow through the town as well.
