Overview of Winter Garden

Winter Garden is a city in Orange County, and is located about 14 miles west of Orlando. According to the 2010 census, Winter Garden has a population of just under 35,000 residents, but is also part of the much larger Orlando-Kissimmee-Sanford Metropolitan Area, which holds over 2 million people.

Like many local areas, Winter Garden has plenty of culture on its own, but is also close to other popular communities like Windermere, Ocoee, and Apopka. While it doesn’t necessarily have the major hills, or “Florida Mountains”, of Clermont, Winter Garden does have the highest elevated spot in Orange County, and has a great mix of rolling hills and flatlands, common for many locations in Central Florida.

The temperature in Winter Garden is warm and humid, with mild winters and lots of rain. However, since the area gets no snowfall, residents enjoy much more sun than most places in the country, and the “winter” season here is one of the best times to be in Florida.

The location

The Winter Garden area is the perfect place for homeowners that are looking to be somewhere with a laid-back and “small town” feel, but still want access to all the amenities a big city offers. Residents are just a short ride on the 408 away from Downtown Orlando, and another quick drive from the rural hills of Clermont. It’s the perfect spot to enjoy both wide-open spaces and urban environments.

While it’s close to some great spots, Winter Garden itself has everything most residents need, with one of the most popular outdoor retail spaces in Greater Orlando, an indoor mall, several movie theaters, and plenty of shops and restaurants in the immediate area. Great local favorites include Yellow Dog Eats, That One Spot, and Twistee Treat, where you’ll find plenty of kids and teenagers hanging out with their friends and families on weeknights and weekends.

The downtown

The Winter Garden community has put a lot of work into their downtown area, and it shows. The architecture has the perfect mix of historic and refined, and the residents enjoy weekly events, including music festivals and farmers markets, all within the immediate downtown area. One of Orlando’s most beloved fine dining restaurants, The Chef’s Table, is a local staple, and the downtown also has a wonderful private school, Foundation Academy.

There’s also a performing arts menu, and a local barber shop, and a candy store, all within a few hundred feet. For homeowners looking for a small town with lots of value, and who still want to work or have access to the larger Orlando areas, Winter Garden may just be the perfect location.
